Fact....Nicknamed "The Cheetah," Nelson Vails was a bicycle messenger in New York when he hooked up with  the Toga Bike Shop cycling team. He quickly rose through the ranks of sprint track cycling. In 1981, he went to the Nationals and took fifth. In '83 he finished second, and in '84 he was champion. That earned him a berth  to the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, where he missed taking the gold medal in the match sprint race by half a wheel-length.

Fact or Crap: Dinosaurs cracked their tails like a whip.

Fact....At least it's entirely possible. Based on the computer modeling of Nathan Myhrvold, the chief technology officer of Microsoft, the Apatosaurus, which weighed 3,200 pounds, may have been able to crack its 41-foot-long tail. The crack would have been about 200 decibels, with 2,000 times the energy of a modern bullwhip.

Fact or Crap: The National Enquirer was originally a horse-racing tip sheet.

Fact...Published in New York, The national Enquirer was a small rag that reported on thoroughbred racing. Then in 1952, Italian publisher Generoso Pope Jr. bought the paper for $75,000 and immediately changed the content to the bizarre and grisly ("I ate my baby!"). The Enquirer's national weekly circulation quickly rose into the millions!

Fact or Crap: In 1712, Johann Bessler unveiled a perpetual motion machine that was never debunked.
